Birth of our Founder

Founder of Meghana Biri (Late Shri Ganesh Chandra Shaha) was born on the auspicious day of Ashtami in the year calendar year 1920 (Bengali year – 1327).1920

Birth of Meghana Biri

Although, Meghana Biri had grabbed a majority share in the market by then, trademark of ‘Meghana Biri’ was registered in only 1945 to officially mark its emergence.1945

Venture into India and setup first manufacturing plant in India

Late Shri Ganesh Chandra Shaha found it of utmost importance to setup a manufacturing plant in the then-newly independent India, in the state of Tripura (Agartala), to cater to the ever-growing market demand.1950

Agro-products & Dairy farming division started

On the sidelines of the biri industry, agro-products division was formed in Sambalpur (Odisha) and subsequently dairy farming in the same location.1962

Start of Transport and Logistics Division

With the booming biri industry on one hand and the lack of proper transportation network on the other hand in the pre-digital age, Late Shri Ganesh Chandra Shaha started in-house transport and logistics division for procurement of raw materials, supply of finished goods and marketing of its products.1966

Printing & packaging division started

Another important constituent of Biri industry is its labelling and packaging. Thus, gave rise to another backward integration to meet the supply-demand gap. Offset-printing machines were first setup.1968

Introduction of second-generation into family business.

Our founder thought it was the right time to induct his children into the business and hence, Shri Gunendra Narayan Shaha and Shri Gourendra Kishore Shaha were formally inducted into the ‘Meghana’ family.1976

Birth of Manab Kalyan (An initiative by founder Late Shri Ganesh Chandra Shaha)

With the business booming and running smoothly, children well-settled in managing the business and having explored the world enough, Late Shri Ganesh Chandra Shaha decided to delve into exploring the world of ‘Gita’ and ‘Shastras’.1985

Investment and trading arm established

Financial arm of Shaha Paribar was established to make the group more self-reliant in handling of finances and explore new avenues.1999

Late Shri Ganesh Chandra Shaha and Shri Gourendra Kishore Shaha awarded for becoming one of the highest income-tax payers in the country

At the turn of the millennium, group’s struggles and hard work was rewarded by the Finance Ministry of India. Only Father-Son duo of India to be awarded the highest income-tax payer (Aaykar Ratna) award.2000

Shri Gunendra Narayan Shaha awarded for becoming one of the highest income-tax payer in the country

Cherry on the cake! Elder son of our founder and brother of the firm partner was awarded the highest income-tax payer (Aaykar Ratna) award two years later.2002

Birth of Master’s Choice

Spices division was established with its first factory in Sambalpur (Odisha) making it the 2nd FMCG product of the group.2008

Birth of Isspecial brand

Need of a second brand in spices division was given due attention and thus ‘Isspecial’ started.2010

Birth of Meghana Pan Masala

Start of a namesake product. The mouth freshener for one and all.2019

Celebration of glorious 75 years

Proud achievement of the group which only a handful can boast of. Diamond jubilee of Shaha Paribar.2020

Birth of Meghana Gold

Another namesake product – Meghana Gold, was introduced in the market to cater the masses’ ever-growing demand of a chewable product.2020

Venture into chewing tobacco segment with MB Chewing Tobacco

Chewing tobacco from Shaha Paribar group under the brand name ‘MB Luxurious Tobacco’ hit the shelves.2022

Launch of Revolutionary packaging of India’s first machine packed biri

Meghana Biri stamped its authority in the tobacco market by becoming the first biri company in India by transforming its manual labelling process to fully automated machine packing using state-of-the-art machinery and technology.2022
